Music Lessons From Our Artists

Dr. Steffi Tetzloff
Trumpet, Cornet, Flugelhorn
Passionate about teaching, Steffi maintains a private studio of trumpet students of all ages. Her doctoral research focused on strategies for adapting private trumpet lessons for students with ADHD, which she presented at the 2025 International Trumpet Guild Research Room and International Women’s Brass Conference. She is now expanding that research to support all neurodivergent learners, as well as collaborating with Dr. Judith Ofcarcik on research about anxiety and neurodiversity in the music theory classroom.
Steffi regularly performs with the Oratorio Society of Virginia, Virginia Consort, Massanutten Brass Band, and Waynesboro Symphony. While at James Madison University, she won first place in the 2024 North American Brass Band Association Championship Section with the JMU Brass Band. As a member of the Oklahoma State trumpet ensemble, she also won first place in the 2018 National Trumpet Competition Large Ensemble Division. A proponent of new brass music, her arrangements have been performed at the National Trumpet Competition and selected in the Diversify the Stand/Trumpeter’s Multitrack Competition call for scores. She also commissioned and premiered a flugelhorn solo at the 2025 International Women’s Brass Conference.

My training has included coursework in how to effectively teach Music Theory and Music History, in addition to extensive experience in teaching Voice, Beginner Piano, Ear Training, and the fundamentals of Songwriting and Recording Engineering. I have developed and taught collegiate-level syllabi in vocal pedagogy and diction, and I bring a holistic, student-centered philosophy into every lesson and classroom setting.
I believe in helping students build strong technical foundations while encouraging exploration, creativity, and confidence. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, my goal is to support your musical development with thoughtful instruction and practical tools for growth.
